Day 16 - Productivity
We certainly did a lot today. We connected the post caps to the J-Bolts that we had embedded into the cement last time, and we put up the four of the posts, and some of the wood that would support the decking when we finished.

My dad marking where we are cutting the first post.

The post cap attached to the J-Bolt.

My father attaching the post level to the first post to make sure it is standing nice and straight.

The first horizontal piece attached to the house with an angle bracket.

We cut a notch into the first post for the two 2×8x20s that would go there, and a second post is supporting the horizontal piece in the meantime.

We’ve got the fourth post up here and we’ve hoisted another piece up to make sure everything is straight and aligned.

Taking a break after the first 2×8x20 has been put into place. That fucker was HEAVY. Especially since it was all wet.

All the work completed today, four posts up.
The reason why we had to use J-Bolts with postcaps instead of simply putting the posts themselves into the concrete is that it makes things easier to work with. If you put a post that size into the concrete crooked, you’re fucked. here you have room to maneuver, and can adjust the post if you really need to. (We did.)
