Day 13 - Hauling
Yesterday, we had our footing holes inspected and they were good to go. However, we need to replace the flashing on our ledge with copper flashing, and make sure that our ledge is bolted to the house through the joists. This has the potential to be a pain in the ass.
So far today, I went to Home Depot and bought some base for the footing holes. Later today I will be purchasing approximately a ton of concrete and also going to the lumber yard. Neither of these tasks will be much fun.

Honestly, Mike, I can’t really see you being much of a DIY handyman. You helping your dad build this deck baffles me.
And no, I’m not being a jerk, just making a statement. :p
And FYI, just so we all know how much weight MY opinion on DIY shit holds, I don’t even know what flashing IS…and no, I’m not asking. ;)

I think you could build anything (the models you build amaze me.)
As long as you can build me a white picket fence, it’ll make me happy. :)

Honestly, wouldnt know how to build a fence. However, my dad built a black steel one once.
As for flashing, it’s a piece of metal that sits on top of the ledger which is attached to the house.

Aw bummer, okay I’ll take my fence needs elsewhere :)

Mike has a docterate in afromechanics. Also, construction isnt all that difficult. A ton of concrete? Half ton should do it. I’m assuming you’re buying powdered bags, as you order the wet stuff in yards. But no. unless you’ve got access to a flatbed truck and a forklift, it pretty much sucks.
